Abstract

This research analyzes the decisive influence of specialized Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) consulting on the improvement of performance and overall sustainability of Ecuadorian industrial companies. OSH is identified as a strategic pillar that transcends mere regulatory compliance, driving operational efficiency, corporate social responsibility, and long-term competitiveness. The methodology adopted in this study is based on a rigorous systematic literature review, which enabled the comprehensive identification, synthesis, and critical analysis of a wide range of theoretical models, and internationally recognized best practices in OSH consulting. Results demonstrate that consulting significantly optimizes risk management through the implementation of advanced methodologies such as IPER and FMEA, and designs hierarchical controls that effectively address physical, ergonomic, and psychosocial hazards. Furthermore, it strengthens OSH Management Systems by facilitating ISO 45001:2018 implementation and certification, promotes the development of robust key performance indicators, KPI, and fosters a proactive safety culture, where leadership and active participation are fundamental. It is concluded that OSH consulting is an indispensable catalyst for business sustainability, positively impacting the social dimension, by improving working conditions and talent retention; the economic dimension, by reducing accident costs and increasing productivity; and the environmental dimension, by minimizing dual-impact incidents and optimizing resource use. Despite persistent challenges such as perceived cost and resistance to change, significant opportunities exist for its expansion, including specialization in emerging risks and the adoption of innovative technologies. In this light, the study underscores the transformative potential of OSH consulting as a cornerstone for achieving safer, more resilient, and sustainable industrial operations in Ecuador and.
